The B100 is an entry-level biological compound microscope which emphasizes high-quality optics over mechanical form. All of the necessary functionality is present in an intuitive form factor which is ideally suited for classroom use. The B100 uses a traditional layout which is beneficial for students and other first-time users.
The binocular head can be customized for each user, with a sliding interpupillary adjuster for varying eye spacing, and diopters for both eyes to fine-tune focus for nearsighted users and for asymmetry. The head can be rotated 360°, and has a 45° incline for viewing while seated or standing. Interchangeable eyepieces allow for an expanded magnification range, or the use of special eyepieces with pointers and measuring reticles.
The objective turret provides instant access to 4 magnification levels to easily focus in on minute details from 40X to 1000X. Additional 25X eyepieces expand the maximum magnification to 2500X with 6 unique levels. This covers magnifications needed for studying hair follicles, cells, and bacteria. These high-quality lenses are achromatically corrected to improve resolution and color accuracy.
The stage is equipped with two clips for holding slides and other specimens in place. The microscope uses independent focus knobs to control coarse and fine adjustments. An adjustable limit-stop mechanism can be used to prevent the lenses from making contact with specimens, preventing damage to the lenses and glass slides.
The halogen light-source produces a warmer light which is less fatiguing for the eyes, as well as evenly rendering all colors. A rotating Abbe condenser controls the amount of light and contrast.
Monitor and capture photos and videos with the included 5MP digital eyepiece camera. The compact, lightweight camera can be used in place of an eyepiece to watch live images, and to record photos or videos on your computer. This ability to view microscopic images on your computer reduces eye-strain, and allows groups of people to view images at the same time. Our professional software for Windows provides a wide assortment of capture and photo-editing functions including color correction, time-lapse capture, image stitching, and a full complement of measuring tools. A lite version of our software is available for Mac and Linux with essential functionality for capturing photos and videos.
This kit includes a beautifully-illustrated book that will help guide first-time users through the history of microscopes, and how to perform some experiments right at home. The book provides an insight into the history of microscopic study and the invention of microscopes. Several popular experiments are illustrated and explained to guide you through the scientific process. Our expanded slide preparation kit is included, with everything you’ll need to create your own specimen slides. Five pre-mounted specimen slides are included for instant viewing and to test your new microscope. Once you’re ready to make your own slides, you can use the assortment of tools to cut, collect, mount, and stain specimens like onion skin and cheek cells. Over 50 blank slides and cover slips are included for plenty of experimenting. A bottle of specialized glass cleaner is provided to clean up immersion oil and stains (not intended for children).
